Born in 1980 in Zahedan, Iran, Joubin Mahmoudi demonstrated an early passion for music, particularly the drums, which he commenced at the age of 12. By 13, he had embarked on a professional journey with his instrument, swiftly earning recognition as a prominent drummer within his hometown and the broader Sistan and Baluchestan Province. His talent attracted collaborations with esteemed musicians across neighboring regions, fostering a dynamic environment for his growth and development.
Over a span of six (6) years, Mahmoudi dedicated himself to rigorous practice, honing his drumming prowess and exploring its integration across diverse musical genres. During his formative years in Zahedan, he participated in numerous performances alongside seasoned musicians and bands, showcasing his versatility by mastering various instruments, notably the Tonbak, the Daf, and the Drum-Kit.
Following the completion of his secondary education, Joubin relocated to Tehran at the age of 18, driven by a desire to refine his skills and carve out his distinctive musical identity. Despite the initial challenges of adapting to life in a bustling metropolis like Tehran, he remained steadfast in his pursuit of musical excellence. Through collaboration and networking with fellow musicians, he gradually acclimated to his new environment and seized opportunities that propelled his career forward.
Within a few months of his arrival in Tehran, Joubin Mahmoudi seized a compelling opportunity to join a band performing at prestigious hotels on Kish Island. Embracing this opportunity, he immersed himself in a vibrant musical landscape, engaging in intensive rehearsals and performances alongside seasoned professionals. This immersive experience, spanning eight hours a day, served as a pivotal chapter in Joubin Mahmoudi's musical journey, enriching his skills and broadening his artistic horizons.
Following his tenure in Kish, Joubin Mahmoudi encountered a new opportunity that would significantly shape his musical trajectory. An invitation to join the pioneering Progressive Rock ensemble, Safeer-e Arsh, marked a pivotal moment in Joubin's career. At the time of his recruitment, Safeer-e Arsh was at the vanguard of a burgeoning movement seeking to infuse Persian musical elements and cultural motifs into the Rock genre. Joubin Mahmoudi's appointment as the band's official drummer heralded a period of creative collaboration, during which he played a seminal role in refining the group's artistic vision and sonic identity. Under his influence, Safeer-e Arsh underwent a stylistic evolution, transitioning from Progressive Rock to Alternative Progressive Metal, signaling the onset of a dynamic artistic reinvention. In 2007, Safeer-e Arsh made their musical imprint with the release of their debut album, distributed by the esteemed Avaye Barbad Record Company in Tehran, Iran.
In parallel to his involvement with Safeer-e Arsh, Joubin Mahmoudi forged a prolific partnership with Mazda Shahani, a luminary figure within Tehran's music scene. Shahani, renowned for his leadership of the versatile Ahura Band, welcomed Mahmoudi into the fold as the ensemble's drummer. In addition to his ongoing collaboration with Mazda Shahani, Mahmoudi has intersected with other notable figures within Tehran's music community, including Amin Habibi, Babak Arjomand, and Mahmoud Arabani. Through these connections, Mahmoudi has participated in numerous concerts and contributed to the recording of several albums and singles, many of which are commercially available.
In June 2005, Mahmoudi received offers from one of Iran's premier recording and label companies to assume the role of drummer for their Gap Band, as well as to provide drumming accompaniment for renowned vocalists under contracts with Avaye Nakisa Co. Recording Company. Embracing both opportunities, Mahmoudi remains under contract with Avaye Nakisa Co., where he continues to showcase his drumming prowess and contribute to the vibrant musical landscape of Iran.
In 2001, Joubin Mahmoudi made the decision to relocate abroad, embarking on a journey that took him through various cities in Turkey over multiple intervals: 2001 to 2002, 2005, and once again from 2009 to 2012. During his time in Turkey, Mahmoudi immersed himself in the local culture, quickly mastering the Turkish language within a remarkably brief period of three months. Driven by a quest to collaborate with like-minded musicians, he traversed both major urban centers such as Ankara and Istanbul, as well as smaller locales including Eskişehir, Van, and İzmir. Engaging in musical exchanges with local artists, Mahmoudi honed his craft on the drums and Daf, enriching his understanding of Turkish musical traditions.
Between 2002 and 2010, Mahmoudi's musical pursuits were prolific, encompassing over 1,760 performances spanning gigs, concerts, and recording sessions. Despite his considerable achievements as a self-taught drummer, Mahmoudi recognized the value of formal instruction to refine his skills further. In 2012, upon relocating to the United States, he commenced drumming courses under the tutelage of Mr. William E. Elliot, a distinguished percussionist renowned for his tenure as a U.S. Army drummer on the East Coast. Through Elliot's mentorship, Mahmoudi underwent a transformative journey of artistic discovery, harnessing his innate talent and imbuing his drumming style with a newfound sense of precision and innovation. Following a rigorous 14-month training period, Mahmoudi attained certification and received accolades for his exemplary performance and recording capabilities.
In February 2018, Mahmoudi's contributions to the drumming community were formally recognized when he was appointed as an official featured artist by Drumlite, a prestigious company headquartered in Minnesota, USA. Subsequently, in June 2018, Mahmoudi ventured into the realm of Heavy Metal, Aggressive Metal, Progressive Metal, and Hard-Rock music, founding the band AtarWratH in the Washington D.C. area, with its base of operations situated in Los Angeles, California.
